Before we begin our discussion of search engines, let's define our terms. Search engines are powerful software programs that have the ability to search through websites for specific information such as a word or phrase. Each search engine looks for information in different ways, and you should experiment until you find two or three search engines which meet your needs. This page serves as an index to different search engines, with a few helpful hints on each, and provides a link to an advanced course.
